Ovarian Cancer Tumor

Ovarian Cancer Tumor

It is a sad fact that thousands of women die each year from an ovarian cancer tumor. This is one of the most common types of cancer which is fatal to women all over the USA. Israel and Scandinavia are the overseas locations which are also part of this frightening list. Japan, however, has the lowest rate of deaths from ovarian cancer tumors. This insidious disease has one of the highest mortality rates of all the types of cancers.

Currently there is no preventative measures or cures for ovarian cancer. When the disease is advanced, the diagnoses are never good, and are almost always fatal. However, if caught in its early stages, the recovery rate is much better, usually around 93%. Sadly, it is usually too late by the time the cancer is discovered. About 80% of cases aren’t diagnosed until the latter stages of the disease. By then, the cancer has invaded other parts of the body. In these cases, very few live for five years past the diagnosis date.

Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer Tumor

Ovarian cancer has been nicknamed “the silent killer” for years now. This is because it was only at an advanced stage when found. However, now doctors realize that there are symptoms in even the early stages of this disease. The most common symptoms include pain in the abdominal region, swelling, pressure in the pelvic region, and vaginal bleeding. More symptoms include painful intercourse, abnormal menstrual cycles, lethargy, lower back pain, frequent urination, nausea, diarrhea, frequent heartburn, bowel problems, getting full quickly when eating, and weight gain.

These are also the same symptoms as many other diseases as well so it gets a bit confusing. Women are usually diagnosed with some other condition before the real reason is discovered. By then, the cancer is usually in advanced stages. However, there are two very good indications that the problem is an ovarian cancer tumor rather than some other condition. The first is that the symptoms don’t go away but only get worse. The second is that the symptoms stay the same and never change.

Treatment for Ovarian Cancer Growths

If malignant ovarian growths are discovered, there are several different things which decide the treatment to be recommended. The patient’s age, overall health, the stage and severity of the cancer, where the tumor is located, whether or not the patient desires to have children in the future. The types of treatment for ovarian cancer are removing the tumor, radiation to kill the malignant cells, chemotherapy.

Sometimes a combination of all of the above is called for in treating the ovarian cancer tumors. A second opinion is highly recommended before starting any kind of treatment. Doing this quickly is of the utmost importance. Early detection means quicker treatment of this highly fatal cancer. There are too many women dying from ovarian cancer tumors each year. If you have any of the symptoms in this article, seek help from your doctor immediately. If the cancer is detected early enough, then the ovarian cancer tumors can be destroyed before too much damage is done.
